Newsmakers 

Since 1973, AWC Tulsa has recognized Oklahoma’s newsworthy women at its annual Newsmakers Awards Luncheon. Newsmakers honorees have proven themselves to be effective communicators in their professions and have made significant contributions to the advancement of women.

The Saidie Adwon Lifetime Achievement Award is named in honor of the first recipient of the award. Saidie Adwon was a trailblazer for women in broadcasting and was named general manager of KTUL in 1980 - the first female to hold that role at a television station in Oklahoma. Saidie Lifetime Achievement Award honorees are recognized for their outstanding achievements and positive impact on Oklahoma during their careers in communications.

Newsmakers also supports the next generation of communicators by presenting scholarships to female Oklahoma college students pursuing a degree in a communications field. AWC Tulsa also helps support our Philanthropy program with Anderson Elementary. Each year we provide books for each Anderson Elementary student. Our Smartypants program provides a variety of supplies from uniform shirts and pants, to hats, gloves and underwear, and supplemental classroom supplies.

The 51st annual Newsmakers Luncheon and Awards will take place on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, from 11:30 to 1:00 at Southern Hills Country Club.

Join AWC Tulsa as we recognize this year's remarkable honorees. Newsmakers celebrates Oklahoma women who have proven themselves to be effective communicators in their professions and have made significant contributions to the advancement of women.

At the event, we will also award scholarships to young women pursuing degrees in communications-related fields.
