2014 Rising Star Communicator Award Winners

Sarah Hartley is currently a student at the University of Tulsa and anticipates graduating in May 2015 with her major in Communications and minor in Psychology. She is a University Ambassador and Online Student Blogger for the Office of Admissions, and is the Public Relations Chair and On-screen Talent for TUTV. Recently, Sarah received the Delta Delta Delta Academic Excellence Award two years in a row. This semester, Sarah is studying abroad in Belgium and is the Communications Intern for the Belgian American Educational Foundation. “As the daughter of two journalists, my interest in media studies and public relations is supported and encouraged by my parents. Their work as newspaper reporters and photographers straight out of college, led to careers in corporate communications, marketing and public relations. I plan to continue this tradition and establish a career in communications like my parents.”       Katie Snyder is currently a student at the University of Tulsa and anticipates graduating in 2017 with her major in Communications and minor in Art. She is President of Fisher South Hall Government, Publicity Chair of the Residence Hall Association and a member of the National Residence Hall Honorary. Recently, two of her original works of art were published in the TU Stylus – the 2014 Student Art Journal. When not in class, Katie is a student intern at TU in the Athletic Media Relations department, where she has discovered her love for athletic communications and marketing. “Sports are incredible, particularly college sports, because they unite so many diverse individuals into a deeply emotional bond. The incredible triumph and joy of an unexpected win, the adrenaline rush of good competition, and even the crushing blow of defeat, coupled with the unrelenting loyalty of true fans; these feelings are worth preserving. In my future, I want to be motivated by that type of passion every day, and use it to fuel my own work.”
