January 7 | Being Muslim in Oklahoma: Communicating Fact vs Fiction | Speaker: Sheryl Siddiqui, spokesperson, the Islamic Council of Oklahoma | 11:30 AM | Philbrook Museum | Register Now through January 2nd!
Recent statements by an Oklahoma legislator have called attention to Islam, and Muslims living in Oklahoma. According to reports from the Center for American Progress and CAIR, millions of dollars are being poured into groups whose primary mission is to promote prejudice against or hate of Islam. Muslims do not have enough resources to effectively counter the consistent message that these groups are promoting. Sheryl Siddiqui, a spokesperson for the Islamic Council of Oklahoma, has said that such groups have “indoctrinated” Americans into believing the lie that Muslims and Islam are violent. Join us in January and learn how Islamic religious groups counter the misinformation and distortion of their faith beliefs.
About the Islamic Council of Oklahoma:
The Islamic Council of Oklahoma (ICO) is a council of Oklahoma mosques and Islamic schools, serving more than 35,000 Muslims in Oklahoma. The council works to promote improved communication, cooperation and best practices among Islamic organizations to improve the everyday lives of Muslims and all Oklahomans.
